summer

Can't Wait!

Can't Wait!

The snow is mostly gone, here on the prairies, but it will be some weeks before we see greenery and flowers blooming. I can’t wait! It has been a long winter and I sure could use a bit of color. Late spring or early summer images are great for it because all is fresh and green is bright and not dimmed by dust of late summer days.

Macro in Green

Macro in Green

I’ve always loved shooting macros, but this year the ability to go out to take pictures of colorful, sparkly things has become my sanity. It’s been a crazy time for all of us. I’m sure others have found different ways of dealing with the stress and annoyances of our current situation but for me, there is nothing better than getting up early in the morning, or going out in the early evening and taking pictures.

A Sunset to Remember - End of Summer Visit to Jasper NP

We were so lucky this year to catch the last day of Jasper Tram late run, during our early September visit to the mountains. A beautiful sunny day that ended with us being able to behold a beautiful sunset from the top of the mountain was a great way to end summer vacation time.

Another Visit to Badlands

Another Visit to Badlands

Over the years we have travelled a few times to Alberta badlands. It is always an interesting trip. The landscape is so different there, comparing to the standard prairies / Rockies and there is always an abundance of photographic subjects. From out-of-this-world rock formations to interesting flora, patterns on the ground, carved by water flowing down after the rains, people, animals... If you are lucky, the sky cooperates

Traveling Alberta - On The Way To Waterton

Alberta has many things to offer to a traveler. There are wonderful prairies, out-of-this-world hoodoos, lakes, forests and magnificent mountains. Every year, we try to visit different part of the province with the kids, always bringing back a lot of pictures with us. Some of the shots have to wait quite a while before I can share them with everybody.

Memories of Harvest

Memories of Harvest

It is hard to only be able to see winter for months on end. It lasts so long, here in Alberta, that the need to turn to memories of warmer, more colorful months is often overwhelming.  As much as the weather is nice right now, we still have a lot of snow on the ground and I find myself missing colors and warmth of summer months. I'm quite happy that I am able to easily indulge in seeing pictures I took during those months

Roads in Between - Travel Photography

When you set up on a trip, you never know what kind of weather you encounter. This summer, we were, mostly, spared the rain but, quite often, were forced to drive through a hazy world, due to smoke being blown to our province from BC fires.  At times, though, the haze lifted, giving us a clear view of the surrounding world. Driving for hundreds kilometers, you can see lots of different types on landscapes, especially, if you are moving east from the Rocky Mountains towards central parts of southern Alberta. From hills partially obscuring the Rockies, to the very flat prairies, there is always something interesting to see.
